Bernadette Peters as Eleanor in “Slaves of New York” (1989)
I read Tama Janowitz’s “Slaves of New York” and watched the Merchant Ivory film (of the same name) long before I ended up living in Manhattan. Any creative person who can have a sense of humor about themselves will enjoy this film, especially the women out there who have dated their fare share of cocky creative types.

Eleanor: What happened? Where were you?
Stash: Daria was helping me at the studio and I walked her home and took her dog for a walk and it was attacked by a cheetah.
