the late night revel

I hear colors. I see sounds.

Planning The Takeover.

I’m back in Los Angeles. Are there any bands out there who want their sounds seen? If so, inquire within.

Posted above is some footage of my projections and lighting design that I did for The Warlocks at a show in Paris. Almost the entire set is posted on youtube, so check out more of their songs and more of my visuals there.

Getting Away With Murder.

Mom and Dad warned me…

“And you, liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord’s commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, and take down your guitar and turn the sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song…”

An Interview With Me.

Oct 22nd at 4AM / 0 notes

It was fun answering Ryan’s smart and quirky questions. I hope everyone enjoys reading it as I enjoyed saying it.

It’s only a matter of days until I flee the country. And beyond that, is the unknown.

Tribute to the star filter.

When filming the “Red Camera” video, my DP told me I should get a star filter for the shoot in order to get that dreamy look I was looking for. Here’s some of the top star filter moments of all time:

The Carpenters were really into it. The 70’s were all about star power…

“Day of the Locust.” It’s hard to find a good print of this online…

The prom scene in “Carrie”…

I think I see the world through a star filter.

Genie the Feral Child
Found in her family’s home on November 4, 1970, Genie had been attached to a potty chair and locked in her bedroom for 12 years. By the time, the authorities discovered her she was incapable of speaking and had trouble walking. While in a childrens’ hospital she developed her vocabulary through making beaded jewelry, going to clothing stores to learn colors, and began collecting buckets and pails. She was turned over to the state who eventually returned Genie to her surviving parent. Watch “Secrets of a Wild Child” if you want to hear more of this unbelievable story.

Cece, Kelly & Margo from “Modern Girls” (1986)
The movie poster might be better than the actual movie. But there’s some prop/costume/set moments that make the film worth watching if nothing else is going on.

Tanya: I see God doing his laundry, and he doesn’t have any change…

Poison Ivy of The Cramps
A personal hero of mine. For her stage presence, guitar playing skills, and maintaining a 37-year marriage to the love of her life, her best friend and lead singer of The Cramps, Lux Interior. She cruises around Los Angeles in a 1956 Dodge with leopard interior. You might be able to spot it parked at the Glendale Flea Market as she wanders the aisles searching for the perfect shoe for her massive vintage shoe collection.
Here’s to hoping I’ll run into her one of these Sundays, checking out the same pair of cheetah print pumps…

Rose McGowan as Amy Blue in “The Doom Generation” (1995)
Amazing soundtrack + Arraki’s stylized vision + Homoeroticism + Gore = Doom Generation.
Plus, some classic insults including “you chunky pumpkinhead” and “eat my fuck.” But after living here for awhile there’s some reality to her bathtub monologue about LA.

Amy: Sometimes I feel like the city is sucking away at my soul.

Also, there has to be some value to a film when the first line of dialogue is FUCK.
